What is kNott furniture?

kNott furniture (the one that ties Nottingham community into a knot), was created as the outcome of our research in Sneinton. Numerous organisations that work with communities in Sneinton in various ways intensively collaborate, but besides information they do not share any other resources. MapNott saw its contribution to socialisation in Sneinton in designing a modular furniture (a "structure") that would be shared among different community organisers.

After interviews with organisations in Sneinton, MapNott participants created a design brief for "the structure". Five different design ideas were presented to the community on 20th July 2016, and it was decided to proceed with one of the proposed designs. Local supermarket TWO'J donated pallets and MapNott participants continued into the building phase. It was important to recycle donated material in the most efficient way, minimising the waste. MapNott developed a DIY guide for kNott, which is free to download from here. kNott can be made by anyone, using hand tools that most of the households already have. This way, kNott can grow and multiply its effect.

Finally, Sneinton community organisers reached a consensus on who would take care of already made units. There are currently stored and used at Sneinton Market. If you would like to use kNott to organise an event in your community, feel free to contact Sneinton Market, or Sneinton Alchemy and you can borrow them for free. Units are designed to fit into a car, so they can be easily transported without additional costs.
