The first area I lived in Nottingham was Sherwood; and for the
whole of my first year in Nottingham I have never even heard of Carrington! Which
is quite shocking considering how I how close I have lived near to it.
The tour started meeting Carl and Robin who were very active members of the community; it started
in the underpass which was referred to ‘almost as the entrance to Carrington’; the mosaics and pretty mural was
an ode to the community and I thought it was lovely how they managed to keep an
connection from the community to the area, however the problems that Carl and
Robin touched upon was that although there was community involvement it was the
issue of maintenance and keeping the interest in the coming years as attempts
of keeping the upkeep of the area was declining!
As we went
further into Carrington we visited:
- The beautifully kept Gladstone pub
- Acorns (The nursing home)
- The Gardens:
- Guy Routledge:
The potter who had done the map in the
gardens, he was very
friendly and cheerful. Slightly off topic but I loved how the door on the
pottery shop arched inwards and the charming little pieces of pottery birds
inside.
- Pirate Park:
- Finally we went to Carl’s
back yard where the pop up event was going to be held.
