Today we had a design workshop, where volunteers of the map Nottingham project and staff at Nottingham Trent University generated design ideas.
Below are some the ideas, they came up with in response to the SWOT (Strength,Weakness,Opportunity,Threats) analysis we conducted:
The first group came up with the idea of an extended resident roof garden and landscape/storage for garden areas. One of the main characteristics here was ownership clarity and creating the linear street (instead of a passage with attached spaces).
Theme: a greener boulevard
The second group came up with the idea of framing for attachments for play, shelter, lighting intervention and meeting.
Theme: Framing and attaching
The third group came up with the idea of materiality along passage through vertical slatted elements to humanise environment.
Theme: Materials
The fourth group came up with the idea of enclosing streetscape silhouette to create more of a plaza and tensile shelters centrally.
Theme: Plaza
Together we came up with these ideas:
Sketch idea of framing and how they could be used |
Potential for framing to be connected to the seating |
Sketch ideas of how the frames could look and how they would work |
Add caption |
The theme of reinstating the street |
Creating umbrellas / tensile shelters for people to gather under. The umbrellas could act as a sound barrier for the flats above |
